Major Categories

Major Categories will let you input total sales for that category so 42 each can calculate your cost of goods percentages [see the Cost of Goods Report help page for more information].  A good example of Major Categories would be Food, Liquor, Beer etc.

Minor Categories

Minor Categories are used for item sorting purposes when inputing inventory based on the alphabetical by category format.  After creating a Minor Category, you should assign it to a Major Category so that 42 each can calculate your cost of goods for each Major Category.  A good example of Minor Categories would be Dry Goods, Produce, Meats, Vodka, Rye etc.
